Brit backpacker mag rubs it in over The Ashes
They’re a brave lot at TNT magazine.
The weekly paper for backpackers – with a predominantly English readership – is sponsoring an open top bus parade through the streets of Sydney on Saturday lunchtime to show off a replica of The Ashes urn.
The TNT Victory Bus will be packed with Barmy Army supporters for the stunt.
TNT boss Martin Lane (who’s also a shareholder in the company that owns Mumbrella) tells Dr Mumbo: “It’s been a great week to be a Pom in Sydney. And I never miss an opportunity to gloat.”
Any Australians wishing to throw rotten fruit at Lane should look out for the bus as it meanders from Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel, across the Harbour Bridge and back, before a slow drive past the Sydney Cricket Ground. The victory lap will then take in a drink at the Coogee Bay Hotel before an inevitable stop at the British stronghold of Bondi Beach.
They can have the Ashes.

We will have it with great pleasure and looking forward to seeing the splendid bus in action as it lords it across the wonderful Harbour Bridge.
Everywhere we go…………………Barmy Army.

That is one of the inspirational things I have ever read whilst being trapped in this forgotten land, for Queen and Country Martin – a brilliant idea

You still hail from what can best be described as the rectum of the planet.

Much as I would love to take the credit, I must clarify this is the brainchild of Gilly from the Barmy Army.
A brilliant idea and TNT is proud to support it.
Cheers
Martin
There’s nothing like winning with grace and dignity is there …

The original magazine for the Brits in Australia – British Balls Magazine – will also be supporting the Barmy Army bus!
British Balls are long term supporters of the Barmy Army and were on the bus 4 years ago!

And if it was the other way round, wouldn’t TNT be doing the same idea for Aussies in London? Absolutely.

pity the bus wouldn’t dump them at the airport so they could get a flight home…now there’s an aussie dream

There was a 20ft Warnie do the rounds in the UK in 2007, looking forward to Saturday it should be a great laugh.

A 20 foot Warnie ? That’s just around his gut !

Jeannie, I’d like to think if the Aussies won they’d be a little less hoo-haa, to be honest. It’s a big deal to the Poms because of their long history of mediocrity. I didn’t see too many royal honours bestowed upon the Australia after the strolled to a 5-0 whitewash here a couple of years back, whilst each and every Pom that played in the last series over in the UK scored themselves MBEs. Kinda sad. Good marketing by TNT, though.

And who would have bestowed these Royal Honours in Australia, hmm? The King of Cricket, Richie Benaud? Unless your referring to Betty 2.0, in which case it would be kind of ironic for her to give out MBE’s to a team which smashed England..

King Richie or Bert Newton.

Either Lee … more meaningful coming from them.

And I thought you meant either ‘Lee’, as in Brett or Shane.

What about Ky-Lie?

I hope you are prepared on that bus of yours. I have already placed 12 dozen eggs on my balcony to heat up in the sun. My flour bombs are also prepared. Just you wait: You guys are going to stink…
Congrats on winning the Ashes all the same – lets see who will smell of roses come the end of your procession…

Eggs, Water bombs, Flour bombs – you Poms are going to get humiliated (like you did at Headingley…)

Hi Guys and Girls, Warney here; amazing ex spin bowler turned cricket commentator supremo. I have been working on my waist size, which is actually looking pretty tidy.
I am with Adam here. That bus is going to get crucified. You make your own bed.

Square Eyes: A little less hoo-ha? Have you ever seen Aussies in London at The Church (nightclub not holy place…)or any sporting event?
There’s a healthy rivallry between Oz and the UK and it doesn’t harm anyone. I was in London when Australia won the Ashes and I can honestly say that there was plenty of “hoo-ha” from the Aussies to the Poms. Exactly as there should be. Try taking it all a little less seriously OK?

Nice one Jeannie, the “Hoo Ha” at The Church or any other Aussies-on-tour location makes the Poms at Bondi look like handpicked ambassadors of decorum.
Nice one on the Bus, sounds like a fun bit of harmless banter and a great PR stunt. Bring on the eggs it will only demonstrate upset at the British victory and what can only be described as bad looser sportsmanship.

I wonder if we can keep the bus pointed non-stop in the direction of the UK? Maybe we need to charter a boat and do the job properly!

I’m off my feet for a few weeks after a quick op, so if you need someone to drive the bus, give us a shout. I’ll bring some black pudding sarnies as well. Ekky thump.

Sorry Freddie – but we’ve already roped in Stan Butler …. ohhh I hate you Butler … because of the op.

so does this mean almost half of the people on the bus will be from Sth Africa, just like the pommie Cricket team?

Eggs, Flower, Water bring it on but please bring some butter so we can make some Yorkshire Puddings!
You know Puddings surely as you had eleven on display at The Oval!!!!
All good fun and it should be a good day on the fun-bus and I reckon the Ausies will lap it up in great humour.
