Bursty expands senior team with key hires for PR, social and accounts

Bursty has expanded its team and strengthened its capabilities via the appointments of Matt Hagias as general manager of earned (PR and social), and Michaela Berry and Mitch Anderson as senior account directors.

The announcement:

Bursty – a fast-growing sport and lifestyle creative agency – has announced a raft of senior hires, expanding its offering for current and prospective clients.

The recruitment drive is headlined by former Fox Sports Australia head of sports communications Matt Hagias, who joins Bursty as general manager of earned (PR and Social).

His role, based in Adelaide, expands Bursty’s national presence and bolsters its offering in public relations and social media.

Hagias has more than 15 years’ experience working across various sectors of the media industry, most recently overseeing creative PR moments and reactive talent opportunities that drove attention for Fox and Kayo. He previously held a senior leadership role at One Green Bean, responsible for the agency’s social media, influencer and content divisions.

Bursty has also secured the services of Mitch Anderson and Michaela Berry, who join as senior account directors working across key client accounts including Puma, TEG, Mitre 10 and Forty Winks.

Anderson has more than 12 years’ experience in brand and sponsorship roles across the AFL and financial services industries. Over the last six years, he worked at NAB in a range of roles, delivering brand marketing campaigns and leveraging NAB’s long-standing AFL sponsorship.

Berry has more than a decade of experience in sports marketing and communications across the AFL and NRL. She most recently served as head of marketing and PR at Melbourne Storm, where she led brand strategy, fan engagement initiatives, and high-impact campaigns that built strong audience connection and commercial growth.

Bursty managing director Richie Butterworth said: “We are really excited to have Matt, Mitch and Michaela join the team at Bursty. Not just because of the incredible experience and skillset they are bringing to our team and clients, but because it marks a pivotal moment in Bursty’s short history – to be able to attract this senior level of talent is something we are really proud of and we can’t wait to see what they can create!”

Founded in 2020, Bursty has quickly developed a reputation for unique thinking, creating culture-based content and driving purpose-led initiatives for clients. Clients include PUMA, Netflix, Mitre 10, TEG, Forty Winks, the AFL Players’ Association and Nedd’s Milk.

Last month, Bursty was awarded Social Idea of the Year at the 2025 Mumbrella Awards.
