Canberra gets new Electric Cinema
Independent cinema operator Palace Cinemas will offer tribute to Canberra’s defunct Electric Shadows cinema with a new cinema complex, the Palace Electric Cinema, which will be located in the NewActon Nishi development.
“[The name is a tribute] and to signal to our audiences the quality of the programming that they can expect from the Palace Electric Cinema,” Palace executive director Benjamin Zeccola told Encore.
The original Electric Shadows closed in 2006.
“Cinema choices have been very limited over recent years in Canberra and our research tells us that Canberra residents are crying out for more opportunities to see quality films. This Palace Electric Cinema will be dedicated to meeting their needs,” addedPalace founder Antonio Zeccola in a statement.“We’ve undertaken an exhaustive search to find the perfect location for a Palace flagship cinema in our nation’s capital and the quality of this stunning precinct provides us with the opportunity to set a new and superior level of cinema experience.”
“We don’t take a cookie cutter approach to cinema,” said Zeccola. “We design each of our locations to complement the area and raise the bar.”
The Palace Electric Cinema will open in 2012.
