Captain America sequel makes over $6m while Lego Movie pulled $5.7m

Captain America: The Winter Soldier dominated the weekend box office delivering Disney a total of $6,058,676 outstripping The Lego Movie was the second highest grossing movie over the weekend, bringing in over $5,711,151.

Since premiering in Australia on Thursday the Marvel film has made a total of $6,355,027 across 571 screens, while Roadshow film The Lego Movie has grabbed $6,129,297 on 537 screens.

The pair bumped last week’s number one Noah into third place, which made $2.23 million in ticket sales across 387 screens, taking its total Australian box office to over $8 million.

Animated comedy Mr Peabody And Sherman managed to take in just over $1 million across 508 screens while George Clooney’s The Monuments Men rounded out the weekend’s top five bringing in $597,785 across 341 screens.

Disney’s Need For Speed, starring Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul made $183,193 across 120 screens while Pompeii which stars Game of Throne’s Kit Harington  made $49,960 across 66 screens, taking the film’s total Australian box office to $1,344,679.
