Challenger telco Mate supports local businesses with new campaign

By reducing mobile and internet plans to ‘mates’ rates’, customers of challenger telco Mate can pay it forward to other small businesses, according to the brand’s latest campaign from creative and production shop Chisel.

The campaign is grounded in the brand’s philosophy of being a ‘customer happiness business’, and features small businesses including Budgy Smuggler, personal trainer Pablo’s Booty Camp, clothing exchange SWOP, pet store Dogue, gift store Yellow Octopus, homewares store Third Drawer Down, and cafe The Grumpy Barista.

Zak Kaczmarek, creative director at Chisel, said it was rewarding to support a range of small businesses with the campaign.

“Mate as a brand has such a strong creative platform anchored in the Aussie vernacular, and they provide a service that everyone can benefit from, and this was the foundation of the campaign,” Kaczmarek said.

“It’s rewarding working with an ambitious brand which provides for their customers and is willing to partner with other brands to entertain their audience as much as advertise to them. We’re hoping to connect the brand’s homegrown story to that of other established homegrown businesses and their customers.”

Dom O’Brien, head of customer acquisition at Mate, added: “Mate is a 100% Australian owned and operated and we wanted to showcase some other local Aussie businesses and have a bit of fun at the same time. Working with Chisel, we show Aussies how they can indulge their passions with the money they save with a Mate internet and mobile bundle.”

The ads have gone live on social media and also appear on Mate’s website. The campaign will run until September 30.
