Che Proximity to launch VR motorbike simulation at Australian Grand Prix

Swann insurance will attempt to give fans flocking to Phillip Island for the Moto GP this weekend a taste of what life is like on the track with a virtual reality simulator developed specially for the event.

The simulator, developed with the help of CHE Proximity, will feature at the Grand Prix before being taken on a national tour over the summer.

full-tilt

The experience includes virtual reality headset displaying a 360 video of a top speed professional ride around at Phillip island circuit.

Developers have matched the VR experience with motorcycle, vive controller and feedback devices to give riders the sensation of being on the track.

Swann is the latest brand to jump in the virtual and augmented reality bandwagon. Two weeks ago Fox Sports released an augmented reality app to bring viewers closer to its Bathurst telecast.

Tommy McCubbin, Che Proximity creative director admitted developing the VR experience was a risk, especially given the time it took to collaborate and put together.

“When you create something that hasn’t been done before, you’re taking on a huge risk,” McCubbin said.

“A team of world-class technologists, engineers, and 360 filmmakers have been collaborating for several months on Full Tilt. The result is something very special and offers a unique VR experience.”

Rita Ibrahim, Swann Insurance manager for direct distribution was excited about the new innovation.

“As riders ourselves, we are passionate about bringing the rider experience to a larger audience through cutting edge technology,” she said.

“We are excited to bring our latest innovation to Phillip Island and allow visitors to experience the circuit through the eyes of the riders.”

Swann will extend the virtual experience beyond the track, handing our Google Cardboard viewers allowing people to relive the experience at home.
