A purple patch at ARN Media’s ‘Ted Talk for bogans’

Not that Dr Mumbo would criticise an organisation for holding a big event at The Star, which has been a happy home for the Mumbrella Awards for many years.
Gold’s breakfast star Christian O’Connell leaned into the vibe, celebrating the concept of an afternoon gathering at a casino. “This is the very place to hear a talk about authentic connections, in a casino at four o’clock. It’s like a Ted Talk for bogans.”

O’Connell was even more outspoken on the topic of some of his radio rivals. Without naming names, he suggested that some had forgotten that their job was to make listeners laugh. “Flick around the dial in Australia. There’s a lot of shows that have fucking forgotten about that one. It wouldn’t kill some of them to put it on a Post-It Note.”
O’Connell wrapped up with a question for boss Michael Stephenson: “Stepho said ‘You’ve got three minutes to talk about authenticity – get the fuck on with it.’ Has the share price gone up, Stepho?” For the record, the ARN price fell 1.8% yesterday. But happily the market closed before COC took the stage.
Getting the ARN audience excited
O’Connell’s most high profile colleague Kyle Sandilands was similarly unrestrained in offering helpful feedback to rivals: “No other radio network has ever done an upfront before, because they don’t change what they do year after year. They just do the same shit.”
And Sandilands took fire at Stephenson’s former home of Nine, too: “We’ve got some newbies in charge now. We stole that TV guy from Channel Nine. Nine’s crumbling under the loss of him, by the way.”

And Sandilands was willing to name names, throwing his friend, Today host Karl Stefanovic, under the bus. The Kiis DJ told the crowd: “Stefanovic said ‘We’re fucked over here, bro, without Stepho. Stepho’s taken all the fucking clients to radio'”.
