Checkout to focus on supermarket copycats
Consumer affairs and marketing show The Checkout will tonight tackle supermarket copycat products.
The ABC show, created by the team behind The Chaser and featuring Craig Reucassel and Julian Morrow, will examine the phenomenon of the major chains using packaging, design and colours similar to that of major FMCG brands.
The issue was explored by Mumbrella in this video from 2011:
Tonight’s episode of The Checkout airs on ABC1 at 8pm.
Other issues being tackled include mobile phone regulations, insurance fine print and Deaking UNiversity’s Paul Harrison will discuss the psychology of how retailers market to consumers.
Caught this show over the weekend. I found it really informative as well as entertaining.

Thought the first ep was excellent. Hope it maintains the standard. We need more shows like this not clones of spicks and specs which don’t work.

Anyone walked through an Aldi lately? They have no respect – none – zilch – nada – zero – for intellectual property.
I am thinking of opening up a fake Aldi, called Aldo, as they would not have the guts to go after anyone for ripping off a brand!

Probably the most blatant examples of private label copycat packaging can be seen at Aldi, yet these were not mentioned in the programme. Examples can be seen at http://www.pedanticnerd.com/20.....-to-happen
