Chris Mitchell, Alan Kohler and Magda Szubanski among those honoured on Australia Day
Former editor of News Corp’s The Australian Chris Mitchell is among those recognised this Australia Day, alongside media stalwart and commentator Alan Kohler, and actress and activist Magda Szubanski.
Mitchell became editor of the paper in 1992, and was also its editor-in-chief between 2002 and 2015. Today, he made the Australia Day Honours List for “distinguished service to the print media through senior editorial roles, as a journalist, and to Indigenous education programs”.
Mitchell became an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO), the same honour bestowed on Szubanski for “distinguished service to the performing arts as an actor, comedian and writer, and as a campaigner for marriage equality”.

For doing the jobs they’re well paid to do. For turning up to work. They get an award. Who knew?
