Chris Smith returns to 2GB

After leaving radio station 2GB in July as his relationship with Macquarie Media broke down, Chris Smith is heading back to the business as its new Weekends presenter across 2GB and 4BC.

Smith was formerly the Afternoons presenter under Macquarie Media’s former management, led by CEO Adam Lang. The radio business is now owned by Nine, and managed by radio boss Tom Malone.

Smith is returning to 2GB six months after he left

Smith also hosts Chris Smith Tonight and Chris Smith & Friends on Sky News.

Greg Byrnes, Macquarie Media’s head of content and a former Sky News staffer, welcomed Smith back to the team.

“I’m very pleased Chris is coming back to 2GB,” said Byrnes.

“He’s loved by our listeners and knows how to create great radio. Chris’ weekend show will be a mix of news, opinion, lifestyle and entertainment.”

Smith will also fill in for Alan Jones in breakfast as required.

“To return to Macquarie Media in this capacity is the perfect fit for me now that I have TV shows to host at Sky News,” Smith said.

“It’s a great thrill to be asked back and an honour to be tasked with filling in for the great Alan Jones once again in the prime breakfast shift.

“As for the weekends, bring it on. It’ll be a mix of breaking news, compelling issues, great lifestyle information and a stack of fun, with some of my great radio friends.”

Smith will launch his new weekend show on Saturday, 18 January, 2020. His return comes after the departure of Steve Price, who will be replaced by Deb Knight. Price replaced Smith in the Afternoons slot on 2GB.
