Chrissie Swan, Leisel Jones and Merv Hughes among contestants on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here

imageThe first episode of Channel Ten’s much promoted reality show I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here kicked off this evening with hosts Dr Chris Brown and Julia Morris confirming it is set to run for six weeks.

Among the ten contestants going into the jungle in Africa are former Mix FM radio host Chrissie Swan, Olympic gold medal winning swimmer Leisel Jones and former test cricketer Merv Hughes.

Ten has been teasing who the celebrities being sent into the  jungle will be with a series of clues, including one promising an international household name which is Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia Brady in the 70s TV show The Brady Bunch.

Among the other contestans are The Naked Traveller Tyson Mayr, former Miss Universe Australia Laura Dundovic, former AFL player Barry Hall and TV host Andrew Daddo.

Lauren Brant, formerly a member of kids’ group Hi-5 and comedian Joel Creasey who has recently become a regular on Channel Ten appearing on the Studio Ten morning show and The Project, make up the rest of the group.

During the six week run viewers can also vote for which contestants they want to see perform ‘Tucker Trials’, a series of challenges which determine how much food they get each night.

The winner of the show wins $100,000 for the charity of their choice.

During the show Ten also confirmed another of its big shows for the first part of the year, Shark Tank, will premiere next Sunday at 8pm.

Ten is hoping these shows along with new format Gogglebox, will help to boost its ratings and revenue share after two difficult years.
