Christian O’Connell to expand radio show across the country
It appears that Christian O’Connell’s radio show will soon be available across the country, with the broadcaster taking to Twitter to announce he will be “coming to your wireless” in Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide in 2020.
O’Connell currently hosts the Melbourne breakfast show on Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) Gold 104.3, however the company declined to comment on the show’s expansion, format or success.
O’Connell climbed steadily in Melbourne’s radio ratings last year, eventually topping the FM breakfast market in the seventh survey of the year with a 9.1% share. His reign at the top was short lived though, with Nova’s Chrissie Swan, Sam Pang and Jonathan ‘Browny’ Brown taking the lead in the final survey of 2019, with 8.2% to O’Connell’s 7.8%.
ARN declined to comment when asked when the program will run in the non-Melbourne markets, the length of the program, whether it will be cut as a ‘best of’ show, what it will be replacing, and why the company made the decision to bring O’Connell to more markets.
In Sydney, Gold 104.3’s stablemate, WS FM, is fronted by Amanda Keller and Brendan ‘Jonsey’ Jones during breakfast. The duo command an 8.5% share, behind fellow ARN station Kiis 106.5, which is hosted by Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.
