Sacha Baron Cohen’s Grimsby grabs third place at the local box office on opening weekend

Maggie Smith’s The Lady In The Van has knocked Marvel Comics’ Deadpool from the top spot of the local weekend box office as Sacha Baron Cohen’s Grimsby debuted at third place.

The Lady In The Van pulled in $1.548m over the weekend, taking its total box office to just over $5m while Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool made $1.609m – taking its total box office to a total of $39.622m.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Grimsby, which tells the story of two estranged brothers, one a village idiot and the other an MI6 assassin, made $1.608m across 325 screens io its first weekend. Since premiering on Thursday, the comedy, which also stars Rebel Wilson, has made a total of $1.632m.

Rebel Wilson’s other film, How to Be Single, pulled in $878,340 across 270 screens to take its local box office to $9.379m.

Spotlight, the winner of the Best Picture gong at the Oscars, sold $348,175 in tickets across 169 screens.
