CinemaLive to deliver Opera Australia to international network

Alternative content provider CinemaLive has partnered with Opera Australia and the Sydney Opera House to deliver selected performances to cinemas in Australia and other countries.

“The aim of Opera Australia and CinemaLive is make opera accessible to everyone, particularly across regional Australia & NZ. Whilst plans for the exact titles are currently being finalised, I can advise that two productions will appear in Australian cinemas pre-Christmas. Each production is being delivered in high definition and 5.1 sound together with fantastic backstage interview with cast members, the conductor and more. Every event will be introduced by our host, Sami Lukis,” acquisitions and marketing director Michelle Hunter told Encore.

Hunter added that CinemaLive is currently confirming all cinema locations for Australia and New Zealand, and  they will be available – along with the list of performances – from September 6 on their website. International will commence roll out from early 2011, and it will be the focus of CinemaLive at ShoWest and Cinema Expo next year.

“Next year we’re looking to deliver 5-6 events, each packaged up to contain behind the scenes footage and interviews. Each event will be delivered to cinemas via hard drive so that multiple plays can take place for each production to cater for the general demographic, as many do not go to such events at night,” explained Hunter.

CinemaLive has a satellite network in more than 100 locations across Australia and New Zealand. The Opera Australia content will be available to all of its digital locations.
