Coles’ chief customer officer Amanda McVay to depart amid overhaul
Coles’ chief customer officer Amanda McVay will leave the supermarket giant following a restructure to its customer, retail, and marketing functions.
McVay joined Coles mid-2023, reporting to CEO Leah Weckert. She filled the position left vacant by the late Lisa Ronson.
The transition to a chief customer officer role signalled a broader remit, with a focus on a more connected customer experience. McVay led Coles’ development and execution of its marketing, brand, and consumer strategies, helping bring the brand’s group vision, purpose and strategy to life.
Now however, it is understood there has been another overhaul to bring instore retail, Coles 360 retail media, digital, and customer altogether.

A spokesperson told Mi3 the structural overhaul reflected an “increasing focus on omnichannel, bringing retail, customer and digital experience together”.
Coles Liquor’s CEO Michael Courtney will take the helm. He has been with Coles Group for nearly ten years, holding various roles in business development, finance, operations, and ecommerce.
He has spent nearly two years with Coles Liquor specifically, leading the team across over 900 retail locations — including the Liquorland, Vintage Cellars, and First Choice Liquor Market brands — and digital platforms.
Prior to Coles, he held senior roles at ANZ and the Bank of America.
Coles has promoted Clair Lauber to succeed Courtney in the Coles Liquor portfolio.
CEO Leah Weckert said both Courtney and Lauber are “accomplished executives” who have strong impacts in the group.
“Michael’s appointment reflects his deep understanding of our business and broad career experience. He has consistently shown he can lead through change, build strong teams and deliver for our customers,” she told Mi3.
