Coles strengthens marketing team with two senior appointments, including Tourism Australia’s Geoff Turner

Coles has strengthened its marketing team with the promotion of Kate Bailey to general manager of media and sponsorship, and the appointment of Geoff Turner as head of marketing research and insights.

Bailey’s role sees her step up from head of marketing transformation to lead the supermarket’s relationship with media owners, and handle budget, agencies and maximising paid, earned and owned channels. Turner, meanwhile, is reunited with chief marketing officer Lisa Ronson, with whom he worked at Tourism Australia, where he was general manager of marketing strategy.

Bailey is an internal promotion, while Turner joins from Tourism Australia

“I am very pleased to announce two new members of the marketing leadership team at Coles who will help to drive our strategy to inspire our customers and help them lead healthier, happier lives,” Ronson told Mumbrella.

“Kate has extensive knowledge of Coles, having been with the business for over eight years where she held a number of roles in our Supermarkets and Liquor teams. I’m certain that her experience in our Marketing team, alongside her strong leadership ability and personable approach will enable her to make a fantastic contribution in her new role.”

While Turner was most recently general manager of marketing strategy at Tourism Australia, he had held multiple roles across his stint with the organisation, which stretched to almost a decade.

Ronson has been at Coles for a year

“I’m also delighted to announce that Geoff Turner has joined Coles as head of Coles Group marketing research and insights, responsible for defining and integrating truly customer obsessed insights and behaviours across Coles,” Ronson added.

“Geoff has brought a wealth of external experience to my leadership team including more than nine years at Tourism Australia, delivering highly successful campaigns like the ‘Dundee’ Super Bowl campaign and repositioning of ‘There’s nothing like Australia’.”

Ronson herself joined the supermarket giant last year from Tourism Australia, where she was CMO for four years. In November, Coles launched its first Christmas campaign under Ronson’s leadership, thanking customers for their 100 years of patronage.
