Coles to sponsor Nine’s London Olympics coverage

Coles may have given Ten and Seven a big slice of the action with its high profile sponsorships of Masterchef and My Kitchen Rules. But it has saved some sponsorship dollars for Nine too. The supermarket chain has come on board as Nine’s first sponsor of the 2012 London Olympics.

Nine’s announcement:

The Nine Network today announced Coles as the first official partner to commit to Nine’s broadcast of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Announcing the partnership today, Nine’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Peter Wiltshire, said: “We are delighted to be working with Coles on what promises to be one of the greatest Olympic Games ever staged.

“This partnership is confirmation that our early approach to market provides advertisers with the opportunity to support our telecast. We look forward to welcoming other partners in the months ahead.

“With the best sports presenters in the business, Nine will deliver approximately 300 hours of stunning Olympics action in high definition, with around-the-clock access via ninemsn’s Wide World of Sports platform. To reinforce the quality of Nine’s sports coverage, Nine has been awarded the Olympic Bronze Rings award for Category 4: ‘The Best Olympic Program for Vancouver 2010’. It is a proud moment for our Broadcast team to be recognised on the world stage.”

Coles Marketing Director Simon McDowell said the partnership with Nine would give Coles another compelling, engaging and unique platform to connect with its customers, and showcase its great value and quality food during the world’s greatest sporting event.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Channel Nine in relation to its broadcast of the London 2012 Olympic Games, it promises to be a truly memorable event and a terrific vehicle for us to continue to tell the Coles story,” Mr McDowell said.

“This adds to several other high profile partnerships that help further underline the company’s commitment to fresh food, healthy eating and active lifestyles.

“These sponsorships, along with our Sports for Schools program led by Olympic champion Cathy Freeman, help spread a positive message around quality fresh food, healthy eating and active living.”

“Over the next two years, we will use our arrangements with these prominent domestic and international events to further build Coles’ profile with Australian shoppers to highlight our quality, service and value,” Mr McDowell said.

“We’ll be showcasing ideas to inspire and delight, reinforce our ongoing commitment to value, and help Australians put quality food on their table for less. People have seen what we’ve done around Masterchef to build our brand and there’s much, much more to come.”
