CommBank launches centenary treasure hunt

Commonwealth Bank will launch a treasure hunt as an extension of its centenary campaign.

The Time Vault treasure hunt will take place both on and offline over two weeks.

The competition will run as a tab on the bank’s Facebook page.

Over the ten working days of the fortnight there will be a new treasure to hunt.

The campaign was developed by Imagination in Sydney and Buddy Media in New York.

The initial question to begin each day will relate to a different decade in the 100 year history of the bank and send players on a treasure hunt quest to collect information surrounding Commbank’s history.

Players will have 23 hours to uncover the correct answers and submit them to the Time Vault tab on the facebook page before the next treasure hunt begins. The first event begins at midday November 21, with the final hunt closing on December 3.

The winner of each day will win $2000.

To be eligible, players must first ‘like’ the competition tab.

Louisa Galligani, Commonwealth Bank senior PR advisor told Mumbrella that the campaign “was not about acquisition of fans, but a fun way to profile our centenary year.” Galligani said competitors didn’t have to be fans of the Facebook page to be fans of the treasure hunt tab and compete.

Commonwealth Bank chief marketing and online officer Andy Lark said: ““Commonwealth Bank has been a pioneer in banking technology since our inception one hundred years ago and we continue to lead in the digital space, with social media being a vital part of this. We wanted to create a fun, interactive and rewarding game to profile our Centenary for our 70,000 strong Facebook community, so created The Time Vault.”

The bank recently announced it was reviewing its ad agency line-up putting Goodby and BMF on alert.
