Comms Council CEO Daniel Leesong ousted

Out: Leesong

The Communications Council CEO Daniel Leesong has abruptly vacated the position.

Ex-Lion Nathan marketer Margaret Zabel will cover for Leesong as interim CEO during the search for a replacement.

Comms Council chairman Anthony Freedman said in a statement: “Daniel’s departure is regrettable but provides an opportunity to bring new leadership to the Council as we move toward our third year of operation.”

Leesong’s exit marks the end of two years as chief executive for the trained lawyer whose career has included stints as CEO of the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania, director of external affairs at the Distilled Spirits Industry Council and chief of staff to the premier of Tasmania.

Recruiter Hourigan International is handling the search for a new Comms Council CEO, with both local and international candidates being considered.

Freedman added: “Margaret’s exceptional commercial experience and close working relationship with many agencies around Australia, will bring new and valuable insights to both developing a clear vision and strategy for the future as well a fresh ‘client side’ viewpoint on many aspects of our work at The Communications Council.”
