Compare The Market on the hunt for new CMO following resignation of Jenny Williams
Comparison website Compare The Market is seeking expressions of interest for its chief marketing officer position, following the recent resignation of Jenny Williams.
Williams joined the brand as CMO in January last year, and aimed to build a closer association between the brand’s meerkats and consumer understanding of what Compare The Market actually does.
Williams, who resigned in May, has now returned to the Ideagarden, which she founded back in 2004. She describes the business as a “strategy-led customer management agency delivering innovative and profitable customer experiences that realise the promises of the connected world.”
Williams was also managing director of the Australian arm of Tribal Worldwide between 2006 and 2007, and chief marketing officer of health insurer HCF for two years between 2015 and 2017.
Compare The Market confirmed the departure to Mumbrella and wished Williams the best with her next chapter. The brand said it was currently accepting expressions of interest for her replacement.
Compare The Market recently launched a campaign expanding on its ‘Simpleness’ brand platform, which features the meerkats learning Aussie slang.

The first campaign for Compare The Market under Williams, Welcome To Simpleness, was heralded as a “directional shift”.
Williams has been approached for comment.
There’s only so much meerkat we can take.

Royal Commission is coming and looking at Compare the Markets, Iselect, and others. I would say Caio bella!

To see the amount of publicity Compare the Market’s campaigns have been given on this very publication over the last 12 months and to read the outrageously overstated aims of the campaigns (which appear to be unmet) and then to have the CMO resign… something sounds fishy to me.
I wonder if she set unrealistic expectations for herself and either; (a) realised she couldn’t meet them or; (b) was pushed out for not meeting them.
Lots of CMOs on the merry-go-round at the moment.

I’m pretty sure the Meerkats must have a revolving door built into the C-Suite. They turn over CEOs and CMOs quicker than you can say (in your best Russian accent) “ABC you later”.
With the level of instability they have stacked at the top it’s no surprise they come across as a company with no clear direction. How could you with that many new egos trying to stamp their mark on the company!
Plus with the Comparison Industry not that far from the Banking Industry (who are all in the same category as used car salesmen), and Comparethemarket throwing their lot in with the health insurance industry, you wouldn’t be surprised if their bottom line was taking a hammering at the moment with diminishing trust and leads.
The Meerkats are the best thing they have, which must be scary when your balancing the books.

How did she communicated that to you?

You’re being unfair – they’ve only had what, 12 different people in the CEO’s /CMO chairs in their 6 or 7 years……..
The latest misogynistic, bogan advert ( ‘We do Shuey now?’ )!?!?? is symptomatic of their ongoing challenge to find their target audience and reflects their C-Suite lack of diversity. Jenny had her work cut out for her there!
