Content key to next year’s Astra conference

The creation of content is to be the theme of next year’s pay TV industry conference, Astra has announced. A keynote address will come from Anne Sweeney, president of the Disney and ABC Television Group, who was described by The Hollywood Reporter as the most powerful woman in entertainment.

Astra – the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association – said the conference theme will be “Content matters”. It takes place in Sydney on March 29 next year.

“Australia has made an impact on global viewing trends by embracing innovative technology to deliver entertainment,” said Sweeney. “Changes in consumer behaviour are driving our businesses in ways we couldn’t have imagined a few years ago. I look forward to the conference and discussing the demand for great content and its power to shape our business.”

Petra Buchanan, CEO of ASTRA, said: “Subscription television is a significant investor in the Australian media sector, through technical innovation and infrastructure, production and employment.”

Other speakers will include John Porter, CEO of Austar and Kim Williams, CEO of Foxtel.
