Cops LAC: Losing Audience Continually
Nine’s Kate Ritchie police drama Cops LAC shed more than 20% of the audience it reached for last week’s debut.
Thursday night saw the show average an audience of 926,000, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam.
It faded from fourth for the night last week with 1.168m, to 11th last night. It was particularly unpopular in Perth where it was 16th.
Although it beat Ten’s cop drama Rush again, the gap narrwowed from 500,000 viewers last week to 138,000 last night.
Meanwhile, normal service was resumed in the battle for mornings after Sunrise’s big win over Today yesterday.
Seven’s Sunrise won with 384,000 to Today’s 347,000 viewers. But Nine’s Today ran close in Sydney and took back its Melbourne heartland.

I’ve given Cops LAC a go… but there are just a few things missing… not a huge amount of good acting… and the chemistry just doesn’t seem right.
Kate Ritchie is awesome, but there are a few superfluous characters that are simply drowning! That, with the all too predictable story lines… I’m only persevering as I want it to get better!
And why are they putting it up against the already well-established Rush? Did they want to create competition in a very under-valued Australian drama TV market? Why not show it on another night instead? Does the network do any market research before they air the show? If not, it might be worth considering!
With amazing shows like Mad Men and Breaking Bad from the US, our Aussie market really needs to step it up. They’ve already shown how great they can be (Underbelly), let’s keep up the standards!!!

It’s funny, I saw the re-run of the debut episode and thought ‘I agree with everything that the (presumably) Ch7 commenter wrote under 6 different aliases on mumbrella the other day’. Australian TV at its worst.

It did better figures than Rush

Actually, I thought it was pretty good. The humour was fresh and funny, the plot had some reality about it – especially the bride’s night out, and it kept me entertained for the whole hour. I’ll be back next week.

Kate Ritchie is awesome? Really? This show is rubbish. There’s no truth or depth to it. It’s just another stupid Australian drama full of incredibly beautiful looking people. I haven’t seen one good looking detective around Kings Cross (they’re all over weight). Underbelly got it right. Secret Life of us got it right. Love my way got it right. Offspring is getting it right-ish. Acting first, looks second. (As opposed to Looks first, acting second rate.)
The television industry is doing very well in driving people to other media channels. Too many old has-beens at the top of the development companies doing things the same way they’ve always been done. When will they ever learn. CHEAP IS EXPENSIVE… And it will cost them in the long run. If you want to see a great cop show watch the Wire. It’s written with real insight (by a Crime reporter from a newspaper).

Yeah I spent about three minutes on Cops LAC and then resorted to switching on to Rush which isn’t much better these days. Cops LAC wasn’t publicised well. I knew it was coming up and two weeks ago searched ninemsn for an on-air date only to find the website just said ‘coming soon’. I think Nine’s PR people need to pull their finger out.
