Coup for WeAre8, with senior hires from TikTok and Nine ahead of launch
Recently departed Nine executive, Lizzie Young has made two senior hires at WeAre8 ahead of its launch next month.
The sustainable social media platform has hired Danika Johnston from TikTok as chief commercial officer, and Nine’s Luke Robinson as chief marketing officer, signaling a major boost for the new start-up.
CEO, Young, who left Nine in March where she was managing director – local markets & group marketing said: “Danika and Luke are outstanding media professionals. Danika is passionate about delivering results for her clients. More importantly, she is passionate about delivering the right results – ones that guarantee transformational performance, all while enabling brands to drive positive outcomes for people and the planet.
“Luke is recognised for the success he has delivered building brands across a number of different media and content businesses. He has a unique mix of strategic and creative capability and I can’t wait to see him build our community.
“We are excited to get going and are committed to building a media offering that delivers serious results and has a positive impact on social and environmental causes facing Australians.
Johnston joins from TikTok, where she was industry lead CPG/Beauty/Auto for the past year. Past roles for Johnston have included working at Nova Entertainment, Mamamia, and SBS.
Robinson follows Young across from Nine, where he has spent the last six years, most recently as director of trade marketing. Past roles have seen him at Bauer Media (Are Media), Sony Music, and Channel 9.
According to the Australian Financial Review, WeAre8 is an adtech start-up that pays users to watch advertisements. Further, its website says WeAre8 was founded by CEO Sue Fennessy and aims “to provide a sustainable platform for transformative change through billions of small actions”.
