Cricket dominates for Nine and Ten as Seven lags behind

CBA-No-backgroundxxxxxxxxxxxxCricket remained a viewer favourite yesterday with session three of day one of the fourth test between Australia and India the most watched non-news show, pulling an audience of 979,000 and helping Nine win with an audience share of 19 per cent.

Meanwhile the Big Bash once again helped Ten secure a second place share of 16.1 per cent, while Seven could only manage 15.5 per cent.

Session two of the test match was the second most watched non-news show of the day with an audience of 825,000 after 712,000 had tuned in for the beginning of the test team’s emotional first game at the Sydney Cricket Ground since the death of Phil Hughes. The lunch break which saw Nine broadcast The Cricket Show was watched by 588,000 viewers. Session three of the match was the most watched show amongst viewers aged 16-39.

The Big Bash has given Ten a strong start to the year, with 820,000 metro viewers, according to numbers from Ten based on OzTam timings, tuning in for session two of the match between the Adelaide Strikers and the Perth Scorchers. Session one was watched by 613,000 while the post-game grabbed an audience of 424,000.

Meanwhile on Seven, Border Security – Australia’s Front Line pulled an audience of 680,000 in the 7pm timeslot. Seven settled for an audience share of 15.5 per cent with a new episode of Bringing Sexy Back pulling an audience of 524,000 in the 7.30pm timeslot, out-rated by Nine’s RBT which was watched by 726,000. The season launch of Bringing Sexy Back last year was watched by an audience of 654,000.

Also on Nine, Kalgoorlie Cops pulled an audience of 735,000 at 8pm and a repeat of The Big Bang Theory at 8.30pm was watched by 513,000.

The ABC grabbed an audience share of 11.4 per cent as 7.30 Summer was watched by 544,000.

Nine News won the night with a 6pm audience of 1.150m and a 6.30pm audience of 1.147m. Seven News at 6pm was watched by 947,000 while Seven News/Today Tonight at 6.30pm attracted an audience of 870,000.

Nine News was the most watched show amongst the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.

In the secondary channels, Ten’s One led the way with an audience share of 6.2 per cent with movie Cast Away watched by 249,000.

On 7TWO, which had an audience share of 4.8 per cent, the Brisbane International tennis pulled an audience of 217,000 at 8pm as Sam Groth defeated Lleyton Hewitt, and Eugenie Bouchard saw off Serena Williams.
