Curry paste drama lifts MKR, genital surgery turns viewers off Embarrassing Bodies

Ali and Samuel used a jar of curry paste

The controversial use of a jar of Thai curry paste instead of a fresh one being made by Tasmanian contestants Samuel and Ali helped lift My Kitchen Rules from 1.8m viewers on Sunday to 1.916m.

The victim was Nine The Block: All Stars, which dropped backed below the million-mark in the five capital cities after breaching the mark for the first time on Sunday night, according to preliminary OzTam data.

But Nine’s 10.30pm offering Embarrassing Bodies, featuring explicit genital surgery footage, turned viewers off with just 214,000 tuning in.

The news remained grim for Masterchef: The Professionals, dropping to 524,000 and pulling its series average below 900,000 to 893,000 for the first time.

Ten had six of the top 20 in under 40-year-olds.

The introduction of Helen Kapalos as host of Today Tonight in Sydney and Melbourne showed some signs of success against Tracy Grimshaw on A Current Affair. TT won in Sydney 292,000 viewers to ACA’s 251,000, while in Melbourne ACA won 331,000 to TT’s 273,000.

Seven won the night with a 30.9 per cent audience share, ahead of Nine (18.3 per cent), Ten (12.7 per cent), ABC1 (11.8 per cent) and SBS1 3.6 per cent.
