Cut NSW government ad spend to focus on transport, says MP
The NSW Government should hack back its spending on public communications to spend it on infrastructure, a politician has demanded. Claiming that the state government has spent more than $2bn on advertising in 14 years, Liberal MP Ray Williams said: “It’s a disgrace that the State Government has wasted on spin doctors and advertising what actually amounts to the same cost of building a rail line to the North West of Sydney.”
The issue is also a controversial one at Federal level, with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd pledging while he was in opposition that he would reduce spending on advertising. However, many in the media industry are relying on Government spend in what will otherwise be a poor start to the year.
