Cyclone takes Sunrise to ratings record

Yesterday’s live coverage of the preparations for the arrival of Cyclone Yasi delivered Seven’s Sunrise one of the biggest audiences in its history.

According to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam Wednesday’s Sunrise attracted an average audience of 524,000.  

Among the show’s previous biggest days was February 9 2009 when it rated 485,000, following the Victorian bushfires.

Yesterday also saw big ratings for Nine’s Today which averaged 360,000.

The early edition of Sunrise rated 217,000 to Today’s 217,000. The extended segment of Sunrise, replacing The Morning Show, rated 390,000.
