D&AD appoints Rosie Arnold as new president

The board of D&AD, the body which celebrates design and art direction, has appointed Rosie Arnold, creative director and partner of Bartle Bogle Hegarty, as its new president.   

The announcement:

September 23, 2011 –

At the D&AD Executive Board meeting on September 21st, Rosie Arnold became the President of D&AD. She replaces outgoing president Sanky in one of the most prestigious positions in the creative industries. The D&AD presidency and is a unique platform to advocate for change in the design, advertising and creative sectors. Rosie is a Creative Director and partner at Bartle Bogle Hegarty.

2012 is D&AD’s 50th anniversary. Rosie is only the second woman to be elected president during that period, and will use the 50th presidency as a platform to discuss inequality in the sector.

Rosie started at BBH in 1983 and was behind many of the classic Levi’s ads of the 80’s and 90’s. She has subsequently overseen campaigns for Unilever, Lynx, Pretty Polly and many others.

As part of her D&AD presidency, Rosie has organised a series of public President’s lectures by senior women in the creative sector. These will be given in London or Manchester by Jaimie Purlman, Art Director at Vogue; Alexandra Taylor, the Head of Art at Saatchi during the 90s and early 00s and Patricia Moore, the sociologist and gerontologist whose studies into age and design led to her being named one of the 100 most influential women in America by ABC.

At the Executive Board meeting, Neville Brody was ratified as D&AD Vice President by unanimous vote. Neville is one of the world’s most renowned designers, and is the Dean of the Royal College of Art. Neville rose to promincence in the 80’s as the Art Director of The Face, before moving to Arena in 1986. He is a designer, typographer, art director, brand strategist and consultant, and his agency Research Studios has clients all over the world.
