Daily Mail Australia promotes Lachlan Heywood to managing director

DMG Media has promoted Lachlan Heywood to managing director of Daily Mail Australia following the exit of Peter Holder in May.

Currently the executive editor of Daily Mail Australia, Heywood will oversee the day-to-day commercial operation of the publication while managing sales and working closely with editor, Barclay Crawford, and the Australian editorial team.

Rich Caccappolo, CEO of DMG Media, said of Heywood’s promotion: “With his extensive background as a seasoned media executive and over 25 years of experience in various leadership and management roles across Australia, including his successful tenure working alongside us, we are confident he will help lead our team through our next phase of growth.”

Before joining Daily Mail Australia, Heywood was the editor of News Corp’s Brisbane newspaper, the Courier-Mail, the editor of Townsville Bulletin, and deputy editor of The Sunday Mail.

He said: “Daily Mail Australia continues to be the first place for news for many Australians. I look forward to furthering its influence and ensuring our commercial partners reach our highly engaged readers.”

Heywood will commence the role tomorrow.

His appointment came after DMG’s chief brand officer Sean Walsh announced he would be leaving the group to take an executive position at Bilt Rewards, a US-based rewards platform for renters.
