Daily Mail Australian editor to head to New York; replacement announced
The Daily Mail Australia office has announced some big changes.
Current editor, Barclay Crawford, is set to move to New York where he will take on the executive editor role of DailyMail.com, with his current deputy, Felicity Hetherington, confirmed to take the reigns in Australia from February 2024.
Crawford was instrumental in the publication’s Australian launch in 2014 and he has served as editor since 2017.
“Editing Daily Mail Australia has been the greatest privilege of my working life,” he said.
“We have built up an awesome team, developed some great digital journalists over the last decade, broken an incredible number of stories and are now third commercially in one of the most competitive media markets in the world.
“What Felicity Hetherington doesn’t know about digital news, showbiz and lifestyle isn’t worth knowing,” he continued.
“I can’t wait to join the team in New York at such a pivotal time in the news cycle.”
Meanwhile, Hetherington joined Daily Mail Australia in 2016 and took on the deputy editor role the following year.
She has previously worked as a news editor at the Herald Sun and news.com.au.
“I look forward to both the opportunity of working with such a talented, dedicated team and further growing Daily Mail Australia’s place in the market,” she said.
MailOnline publisher and editor, Danny Groom, said of the appointments: ‘Barclay has been an outstanding editor who has driven Daily Mail Australia’s stunning success over recent years and has helped establish it as a major news brand. I have no doubt he will make a significant impact on our US website too.
“Felicity has consistently proved she is a highly accomplished news executive with tremendous instincts, and I look forward to working with her in her new role.”
