Dan Murphy’s head of merchandise Campbell Stott said: “The campaign aims to give customers the confidence that Dan Murphy’s has done the leg work for them by comparing prices with competitors across newspapers and catalogues every day.
“Dedication to lowest prices has been around at Dan Murphy’s since Dan himself opened the first store back in 1952. The Price Change Team is something we are proud of as it reinforces and supports our lowest liquor price guarantee.”
It is being aired across Foxtel’s MCN network and free-to-air TV.

Bunnings, Woolies, Coles, and now Dan’s all scrapping the bottom of the barrel.
Is Middle Australia really that motivated by a cheap promise?

I’m not a big fan of the execution, but there wouldn’t be a liquor retailer in the country who didn’t ‘poo’ their pants on seeing this idea for Dan’s.
‘Your’ ads displayed in Dan with ‘Beaten’ slashed across every one of your best prices!
Not ‘Price Match’, not ‘We’ll match it’ – none of that nambey pambey rubbish for Dan -just ‘Beaten’.
In the immortal words of Paul Hogan ‘That’s not a knife. THIS IS A KNIFE!’

@Cheap: Yes.
What planet do you live on?
My guess, inside the Adland bubble where salaries are well above the national average. (Make more than 45K and you’re in the richest half of the country.)
It shits me how much Adland doesn’t get how cash-strapped most everyday Australians are. Clients get it… and we look like fools for not.

Tom, can you please cite your source that the median income is $45k. Have you included those who don’t work such as children, students, the aged, the infirm.
Your figure does not gel with other well documented sources such as the ABS.
– Aug 2011 median FT worker $57,400 (average $72,800)
– Including part-time workers median drops to $46.900 (average $56.300)
– 2010-2011 median taxpayer income $48,864
(unfortunately I can’t find more current data)
Your assertion that if you earn over $45k you are in the RICHEST half of the country. You may earn in the top half but that does not make you part of the richest half.
It shits me how loose marketers can be with opinions stated as facts.
And a good marketer should be looking at median household income anyway.

@donald thomas
Bt that rationale look for a mode (bracket) rather than median .

Maybe a mode of ranges … but not the actual mode. But he was raving on about the ‘richest half’ and the mode won’t reveal that.

It was from a comment on a recent article – I think on ABS – that the average wage ($75K) was misleading, as if you made over $45K you were in the top half of salaries in the country.
Can’t find it just now…
But I’ll “rave” on.
Lord the anonymity on this place sucks.
