Dancing elephants herald the Optus Open Network
A new CGI ad spectacular goes to air today to mark the rebranding of the Optus mobile network as The Open Network. It features dancing elephants, crocodiles, flamingos, flying squirrels and fireflies.
The ad – one of two in the campaign – was created by animation company BUF Paris.
It was directed by Thierry Poiraud and conceived by M&C Saatchi copywriter Andy Flemming and art director Shane Gibson.
Outdoor, print and online executions will follow today’s TV launch.

not to be confused with an ad that also appeared tonight featuring various dancing and prancing wildlife. An ad which I thought at first was for Optus but turns out it was for a fruit juice. Not sure i want to drink a fruit juice that comes from the stomping ground of an elephant or a drag queen deer.

I’d be interested to know about the strategy behind this new slogan – Open Network . Is it aimed at consumers or is it a political message about the NBN? Fun ad though.

What do they mean by ‘open’, is it free to use?

this is just a poor rip off of Goddby’s Sprint’s NOW campaign for their 4G network…

It’s really a rip-off of Walt Disney’s “Fantasia”…made 70 years ago.

Amazing Ad. Interesting however that Optus had to go to France to get this animation. Australian animators not good enough then hey?

When you don’t have an idea spend money on big animation and read the message in a voiceover. Oh dear…..

What is the “Open Network”? this is the first i have heard about it.
I also note i have seen the Turbo Deer commercial still on air… i thought this was being looked at by the ACCC?

I never have understood why Optus insists on using animated wildlife as part of their brand visuals? Yes at times it’s funny/cute but in this particular ad, the dancing/prancing animals serve no purpose.

I don’t think telling people what’s happening on the network is a rip of the Sprint 4G ad.
It is delivering the same sort of message, but nowhere near as well.
Mind you, I think the Sprint ad did it 100 times better. Whatever happened to say it and see it (which the Sprint ad did very well)
They should have rung Sprint and licenced that ad to use here.
