Daryl Somers’ You’re Back in the Room attracts 1.15m, draws negative reviews on social media

Daryl Somers’ new hypnotism game show You’re Back In The Room drew a solid 1.15m metropolitan viewers despite being met with a steady stream of bad reviews on social media. The result is a win for Nine.

Back in the roomThe game show, which challenges contestants to compete for cash while under hypnosis, appeared to take a chunk of audience from My Kitchen Rules, with 1.234m in the 7:00pm time slot.

That result was down on the last time MKR was screened on a Sunday when it drew 1.449m, and this was despite Seven bringing back former contestants for a cooking challenge on MKR.

The surprise strength of You’re Back In The Room helped Nine win the night with a main channel audience share of 23.6% compared with 21.8% for Seven.

The lead-in for the hypnosis show helped Nine at 8:15pm with 60 Minutes drawing 927,000 viewers to beat Seven’s Sunday Night which drew 711,000 at 8:30pm. The broadcast of Tim Minchin’s Matilda and Me drew 737,000 viewers at 7:30pm.

Ten’s highest rating program of the night was Family Feud at 6:00pm, which drew 439,000 viewers.

In the later slots Nine had 314,000 viewers for The Wolf of Wall Street which was beaten by Castle on 349,000.

In the news race, Seven beat Nine with 1.148m to 1.127m across the five cities.

While Nine and Seven duked out it out for first place the ABC had 13.2% and Ten had a 8.2% share.
