Dawn of the Planet of the Apes pushes Transformers to third place
Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has dominated in the weekend box office pushing Transformers: Age of Extinction into third place.
The sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes took in $6.132m across 579 screens over the weekend, taking its total Australia box office to $7.096m. It premiered in Australia last Thursday.
Transformers: Age of Extinction, which topped the weekend box office last weekend, brought in $2.704m taking its total Australian box office to $23.492m.
Children’s animated movie How To Train Your Dragon 2 continues to maintain its second spot taking in $2.708m across 445 screens. Its total Australian box office now stands at $22.878m.
As the school holidays finished over the weekend, children’s movies did well with Rio 2 grabbing $2.496m across 411 screens and Tinkerbell: The Pirate Fairy managing to take in $762,112 across 215 screens.
Comedy 22 Jump Street rounded out the top five taking in $1.695 across 280 screens. The movie has now taken in over $20m at the Australian box office.
X-men: Days of Future Past is finally looking like it is winding down, taking $53,338 across 38 screens over the weekend, taking its total Australian box office to $22.477m.
