Daylight Agency appoints a liquidator following COVID-19 related impacts

Daylight Agency has appointed a liquidator with the agency set to close its doors, Mumbrella can reveal.

A published notice on the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) website outlines that following a meeting of the members of the company on 28 January, Michael Hird from advisory firm Cor Cordis was appointed the liquidator.

Best known for its work for Blue Diamond Growers’ Almond Breeze, the agency lost the almond milk brand as a client in early 2020 when it terminated its relationship with Daylight.

Since then Mumbrella understands the agency was heavily impacted by COVID-19, and attempted to protect the business with a restructure and cost cutting measures that were ultimately unsuccessful.

Amongst the senior leadership team, executive creative directors Geoffrey Corbett and Chris Mitchell left the agency in August and restarted their creative shop Chris + Geoff. Senior consultant Karen Keech moved on to Established Media in January.

According to LinkedIn, remaining at the agency is managing director Chris Gray, CEO Phil Burford and senior consultant John McClymont.

Daylight Agency was established in 2017 following the merger of Mitchell and Corbett’s shop and ICON International Communications.

Daylight’s relationship with Almond Breeze dated back to before the merger. The agency was responsible for the ‘Girl on the swing’ motif which appeared throughout several years of the brand’s marketing.

Just weeks before Almond Breeze terminated its relationship with Daylight, former employee Shelley Hammond launched communications consultancy, One Roof Agency, taking over the PR, social, influencer engagement, sponsorships, activations, events and trade liaison for the brand.

Daylight’s client list included facial recognition platform Verify Faces, disinfection system Airande, accounting firm Bishop Collins and adhesives brand Avery.

The agency’s other ventures included risk and reputation specialist arm, First Light Consulting, which also created a dedicated COVID-19 crisis response team in March 2020.

Mumbrella has contacted Cor Cordis for comment. Requests for comment from the agency were directed to Cor Cordis.
