Across their careers, the duo have worked at BBDO Argentina as senior copywriter and senior art director as well as at Ogilvy Argentina.

Smith and Martinez’s work including ‘Life Signs’ for La Voz del Interior Newspaper and The Beer Tooth Implant have won awards at international creative festivals including the Cannes Lions.

Smith said: “We’re very excited to work alongside some of the best creatives in Australia and the world.”

Martinez added he was also enjoying the move to Australia, and eating Vegemite.

Alex Newman, joins the agency as senior art director after almost a year of freelance work.

Before June last year, Newman worked as a senior art director at J Walter Thompson Toronto for nearly four years and was named ‘Top 30 Under 30’ by Marketing Magazine in 2014.

Commenting on his appointment, Newman said he was looking forward to projects which “stretch the boundaries” of advertising.

“Ben has put together a powerful team, talent from all over the world, which has created this kind of hot bed of creativity. It’s an exciting time to be joining DDB,” Newman said.

DDB has also announced the appointments of Sian Binder and Dave Govier, who join the agency as creative partners on the McDonald’s account.

Binder joins from Ogilvy Sydney where she held the role of head of art, while Govier most recently completed freelance work for The Monkeys, Leo Burnett and Cummins&Partners.

Binder is looking forward to working with one of Australia’s most loved brands.

“DDB and McDonald’s have a well-established partnership and I’m looking forward to working alongside such collaborative and passionate people. And the opportunity to work on one of Australia’s most loved brands made the decision to move to DDB an easy one,” she said.

Govier said he looked forward to using film, digital, outdoor, print, events and promos in new ways.

Ben Welsh, DDB Sydney’s chief creative officer said he was excited to welcome all the creatives to the team.

“DDB Sydney is growing, in a very deliberate way,” Welsh said.

“Our focus on diversity across the board, including getting more women into creative and management roles, continues to attract top class international and home grown talent, and means we continue to deliver stand out work for our clients.”
