DealsAway launches holidays that help koalas

DealsAway, in partnership with One Tree Planted, have announced that for every travel booking on its website, the company will plant ten trees in Australia. The reforestation effort aims to restore koala habitats.

The announcement:

DealsAway, a new Australian owned and operated online travel booking platform, today announced its first-ever corporate social responsibility initiative with One Tree Planted.

The partnership is designed to be simple for DealsAway travellers to support reforestation efforts across Australia, particularly local planting initiatives dedicated to restoring bushfire affected forests and preserving precious koala habitat.

For every travel booking on DealsAway.com, the company will plant ten trees in Australia via local partner organizations and community volunteers on local planting projects under the One Tree Planted partnership.

CEO and Co-founder, Jürgen Himmelmann said DealsAway is proud to partner with One Tree Planted to support incredible on-the-ground reforestation efforts in Australia.

“Reforestation is consistently identified by scientists as one of the top solutions to the climate crisis. The trees planted as part of this initiative will be contributing to local planting projects around Australia where koala habitats were tragically affected by the 2019-2020 bushfires.” Mr Himmelmann said.

“As passionate animal welfare advocates, we founded our own not-for-profit Global Animal Welfare Fund in 2019 with a mission to provide much-needed funds to animal welfare projects in Australia; we are thrilled to broaden our impact through partnerships with other not-for-profits like One Tree Planted whose efforts will help save koalas and their habitats.”

“We recognise that as our new company grows, so does our responsibility to contribute to social initiatives. Together with our customers, we are aiming to plant 10,000 trees across Australia in our first year of business.” he said.

Brand and Marketing Manager, Adelle Clements said partnering with brands that support initiatives dedicated to preserving Australia’s beautiful environment and native wildlife is critical to the future of the tourism industry.

“The Australian tourism industry relies heavily on the country’s unique flora and fauna, and we recognise the importance of uniting with like-minded brands that align with our purpose and values, whilst helping customers purchase travel packages that make an impact.” said Miss Clements.

Canopy Director at One Tree Planted, Diana Chaplin said travelling the world is one of the best ways to explore all that nature has to offer, and giving back to help environmental restoration efforts is the perfect complement to keep our planet healthy.

“The 2019-2020 bushfires in Australia were incredibly damaging to biodiversity and native ecosystems, so we’re thankful for Deals Away and other supporters who are aiding in these recovery efforts through reforestation.” she said.

The objectives of this new partnership include:

  • Supporting reforestation efforts in Australia
  • Preserving and restoring koala habitats in Australia
  • Empowering consumers with sustainable actions
  • Raising awareness about the importance of ecosystem restoration
