Death in Paradise tops Friday night TV with 404,000 metro viewers
A repeat episode of British-French drama series Death in Paradise was the best performing non-news or current affairs program on Friday night.
The episode, airing on ABC at 7:30pm, pulled 404,000 metro viewers, and came in behind Seven News (722,000), Seven News’ 6:30pm slot (716,000), Nine News (684,000), Nine News’ 6:30pm slot (662,000), ABC News (525,000) and A Current Affair (513,000).
Seven’s The Chase saw 399,000 metro viewers tune in, while Better Homes and Gardens had 385,000. Seven’s movie offering, 2013 mystery film Now You See Me had 290,000, while Sunrise cracked the top 20 with 267,000.
The Living Room on Ten secured 326,000 metro viewers, Ten News First 323,000, and The Project’s second half hour at 7pm had 262,000.
Nine’s news and current affairs offerings, combined with Hot Seat on 389,000 metro viewers and Bondi Vet: Coast to Coast on 297,000, wasn’t enough to deliver the network a Friday night win. Seven finished with a 26.7% network share against Nine’s 26.3%, with the networks’ primary channels landing on 18.7% and 15.4% respectively.
The ABC had a 19.3% network share, ahead of both Ten’s 16.5% and SBS’ 11.2%. On a primary channel basis, the ABC had 13.3% versus Ten’s 9.7%.
9Go! was the top-performing multi-channel with a 4.9% share.

This could indicate a number of things, but one of them may be that audiences are tiring (at long last) of so-called “Reality TV” and lame, half-arsed panel shows, and heading back to good theatrical productions.
Death in Paradise is at the low end of that example, but at least it is produced with purpose and integrity.
