Dentsu strengthens strategy team with Tim Mottau appointment

The Hallway’s head of strategy, Tim Mottau has joined Dentsu Creative as strategy partner, reporting in to recently hired chief strategy officer, David Halter.

Mottau’s role is recently created, and he will take strategic lead across a “large portfolio of brands, including one of Dentsu’s flagship clients, Toyota”.

Toyota reshuffled its agency roster in 2021, with BWM Isobar retaining the auto brand’s retail work.

The Hallway has been contacted regarding a replacement for the head of strategy role, however it had not replied at the time of publishing.

David Halter commented: “I’m so glad Tim has joined the team. Tim is a smart thinker who takes the time to empathise with clients and customers. Tim’s new role at Dentsu will allow him to be truly agnostic in his strategic recommendations, with the number one priority to find the most effective solution to drive growth for his clients. Some might need creative, others might need media or customer experience solutions. It’s all here at Dentsu, and Tim will be key to making the most of it.”

Mottau added: “What drew me to Dentsu was the drive to create never before work and, of course, a humbling group of super talented people who I’m pumped to collaborate with. I am thrilled to be joining David, Kirsty, and the team, and work alongside Dentsu’s clients to make a real difference to their businesses and for their customers.”

Mottau’s experience includes leading global strategy for Mercedez Benz and Ferrero in New York, as Dentsu said he “joins with a capability that helps define modern creativity and effectiveness”.

During his time at The Hallway, he worked on clients including Google, Suncorp, Unilever, Foxtel and Harley-Davidson.

The appointment comes after a busy start to the year for Dentsu, hiring Halter soon after CEO Kirsty Muddle joined from Cummins & Partnersclosely followed by John Riccio joining CXM business Merkle as its new CEO. Riccio’s role was expanded to be president of Merkle APAC just under three months into the role.

Earlier this year. Muddle appeared on the Mumbrellacast, speaking about her move across to Dentsu, and the future of the creative product under her stewardship.
