Design company Studio Thick rebrands, appointing former Clemenger senior planner Sam Mackisack
Design company Studio Thick has rebranded to Today and has also hired former Clemenger BBDO Melbourne’s senior planner Sam Mackisack.
The announcement:
Gearing up for the future, Studio Thick rebrands as Today.
As part of a host of changes, design company Studio Thick has rebranded to Today.
On the rebranding, Adam Morris, Chief Design Officer and co-founder, says: “We’ve been speaking to our clients and partners, and recognised a growing need for urgency and optimism when it comes to taking on the complex social and environmental challenges we face. Taking action can’t wait, and rebranding to Today symbolises that.”
The announcement follows a few notable staff moves and a number of major hires.
Most notably, Louise Sergent has been promoted to Managing Director. Jacob Zinman-Jeanes has also been promoted to Design Director.
Adding to its capability, Today has appointed Olivier Laude to the role of Client Services Director, Sam Mackisack to Strategy Director, Jo Szczepanska as Service Design Lead and Callan Rowe as Design Lead.
Laude and Rowe join from digital agencies Isobar and DT, Mackisack from creative agency Clemenger BBDO, and Szczepanska from the R&D arm of Australia’s national broadcaster, the ABC.
In addition, Today has expanded its footprint to Sydney, promoting Kelsey Schwynn to General Manager of the new studio. Among the first hires is Matthew Landauer, formerly of the Digital Transformation Office and founder of the Open Australia Foundation.
Damon O’Sullivan, CEO and co-founder, said: “It’s been a big 5 years as Thick. As Today, we’re still committed to work that helps communities and the planet thrive. Getting our mix of people right helps us gear up to do this even better in the future.”
Did the two juniors who designed the logo and site, talk to each other prior to launch?

“Most notably, Louise Sergent has been promoted to Managing Director.”
Yet the headline is about a man?

Congratulations on fueling the horrific unjustice that has plagued women for theIr entire existence! Perhaps your writers should check their privilege? Or like, at least improve their vocabulary (as far as I know, ‘most notably’ is a little more impressive/headline worthy than ‘appointed’).

Hi Kathy,
I’m not sure gender comes into this.
I suspect that when our journalist wrote the intro to the press release which follows, her reason for focusing on Sam Mackisack is that we tend to give greater weight in stories to people switching between organisations than internal promotions.
And given that the name “Sam” can be used for either gender and it’s not referred to in the press release, I doubt, she would have been aware of Sam’s gender either way
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
