Despicable Me 3 seizes back top spot at weekend box office

Paramount’s Transformers: The Last Knight was knocked out of top position at the weekend box office as Despicable Me 3 proved to be the highest earning feature.

Despicable Me 3 earned  $3.426m over 460 screens ahead of Transformers’ $2.178m across 539 screens however both had falls on the previous week’s takings, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

Wonder Woman moved up into third place earning $1.837m with 304 screen showings, while Cars 3 slipped to fourth with $1.796m across 420 screens.

The House made its debut in fifth position with the Warner Brothers production showing at 225 screens to make $1.627m.

Warner Brothers’ latest film tells the story of a couple who open an underground casino in their neighbour’s home, to earn some money after their daughter’s scholarship falls through.
