Destination NSW seeks general manager of marketing, following Anthony Laver’s departure
Destination NSW is on the hunt for a new general manager of marketing, following the departure of Anthony Laver late last year.
Advertising on LinkedIn, the government-led agency said the successful applicant will have a “passion for advancing tourism in NSW, major sports and cultural events”.
“The general manager, marketing is responsible for leading the marketing function and working with the CEO to develop strategies to promote and position Sydney and Regional NSW in the domestic and international marketplaces.
“Responsible for providing strategic marketing expertise and managing and leading a team with a diverse skill base ranging from high level marketing to brand assets, digital and sponsorship development,” the job advertisement states.
Laver was the general manager of marketing at Destination NSW for six years and departed to join Scenic Australia as its group general manager of sales and marketing.
Destination NSW confirmed Laver’s departure and his new position at Scenic Australia.
Alongside Laver, Destination NSW also lost its director of media and public relations, Allison Lee, with the company currently reviewing the structure of its publicity department.
Laver has been approached for comment.
Anthony Laver commenced with Scenic Australia in October of 2017. Why is it taking Destination NSW several months for find a replacement? Can such an organisation be without a head of marketing for such a long period of time? Surely, there’s not a lack of candidates in the market place. Why so long without a replacement? That to me is the story….

CS, Hmmm – good observation. I hear that the CEO might fancy themselves as the CMO as well – so maybe marketing is covered 🙂
