Directory for freelance creatives launches in Melbourne
A directory that hooks up freelance creatives with ad agencies and clients has launched in Melbourne.
Called The Brownbill Effect, freelancers pay to be listed on the site and clients can browse for talent at no cost.
Commercial photographer Sally Brownbill is behind the project, which officially launched at an event in Melbourne last night.
According to a press release, the idea “was never to build just a standard creative directory, but to approach The Brownbill Effect as more of a ‘creative hub’ providing clients with a wide variety of talent as well as encouraging collaboration and networking.”
DDB, Spinach, Leo Burnett and Tank are listed as partners on the website.
Good idea in principal, however I fear it’ll be a client market and they’ll just play one another off each other to get the lowest price and we freelancers will have to work for a bag of beans. Worse that will become the benchmark price for work. Ask any decent photographer these days, thanks to digital cameras and Photoshop any fool can take a picture and all for 50 bucks!!!! I may be wrong, but this sounds like a digital slave trade.
