Dismal debut for Reef Doctors
Ten’s premiere of Lisa McCune’s Reef Doctors scored just 357,000 viewers on Sunday night – marking one of the worst debuts for an Australian drama.
The one hour action adventure family drama set on the picturesque Great Barrier Reef co-directed by McCune had been sitting on the shelf at Channel Ten for more than six months before it launched at 6.30pm on Sunday.
However, although Reef Doctors’ ratings were poor, viewing across the board was slightly down because of the long public holiday weekend.
Masterchef brought just 648,000 viewers to Ten Sunday night, and American Sherlock Holmes drama Elementary drew an audience of 677,000, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam.
Predictable. A lazy mash-up of genre models – Water Rats with doctors and extra-scenic locations, none of which elevates it above the usual third-rate Aussie dialog and acting.
Amazed that Reef Doctors even managed to attract that as an audience…
Still – if this was on Ch 7, it would’ve had a solid mill.
Maybe blame an average marketing plan to launch.
Who knew there was even a new McCune show ?
Obviously the masses didn’t.
Lisa McCune shd never have left that show on Seven. What was it called again?
Why oh why did they think this would work? Because it has Lisa McCune in it?
The people who have comissioned this got fired so….. u know…. what else can they do with it…. looked good on paper I bet.
