DM Podcasts leaves Nova; taps LiSTNR for sales and distribution deal

After its partnership with Nova Entertainment ended yesterday, DM Podcasts has turned to LiSTNR for an exclusive deal where its Australian titles will be hosted and distributed by the SCA platform.

DM Podcasts is an independent podcast company founded by the team behind The Betoota Advocate, an Australian satirical news website and digital media company.

Additionally, DM Podcasts will become a production house for LiSTNR as it expands its podcast creation capacity.

Nova started hosting DM Podcasts’ titles in August 2021 and their partnership will conclude at the end of January 2023.

The latest podcast ranker saw DM Podcasts attracting more than 520,000 listeners and 1.21 million downloads monthly. Prominent titles include The Betoota Advocate Podcast, Bloody Brilliant Beers and Ain’t That Swell.

Antony Stockdale, founder, DM Podcasts said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Nova Entertainment. Over the course of our partnership DM Podcasts has won consecutive Podcast Network of the Year Awards at the Australian Podcast Awards.

“Nova Entertainment played a crucial role in this and in the continuing growth of our team and business.

“We are thrilled to work with LiSTNR who we believe are the most innovative and successful player in the Australian digital audio space.

“Under the partnership, we will be able to maintain our independence and voice but now with the benefit of the resources and knowledge of the number one digital audio platform in Australia.”

SCA executive head, LiSTNR Podcasts, Grant Tothill, said: “DM’s slate of Australian podcasts will complement and augment LiSTNR’s original and curated podcasts, as well as our international podcast partnerships with Wondery and Stitcher, and our Australian partnerships with the AFL, NRL, Network 10, Schwartz Media and the Royal Institution of Australia.

“DM Podcasts will also provide their production expertise for our rapidly growing branded podcasts.”

Adam Johnson, Nova Entertainment’s chief growth officer said, “We are proud of the joint success achieved during our time together and wish the DM team well as they embark on their next chapter.”
