DMG programming boss: Fitzy & Wippa need time

DMG’s group program director Paul Jackson has said that it will “take time” before Nova’s new breakfast show fronted by Fitzy & Wippa hits its stride.

Fitzy & Wippa, who moved from a drive slot on Nova, replaced Merrick & Dools this week. The following segment aired this morning.

Jackson told Mumbrella: “It’s early days, but they’re beginning to connect with their audience. They recorded splendid numbers in their final drivetime performance.”

In the Sydney ratings released today, Fitzy & Wippa’s drive show recorded a 1.2% increase, according to Nielsen.

“We’re likely to see steady growth to begin with – it’ll take time. Then we’ll see incremental increases. Then quite big increases as the show snowballs and connects with its audience,” said Jackson.

“They have a proven track record. And we’re here for the long haul,” he added.

Last week, Nova released an ad to promote the new show that was a pastiche of a BBC local radio show ad.
