DMG, The Comedy Channel and YouTube team up in search for laughs

DMG Radio, The Comedy Channel and YouTube have today announced the launch of Unhatched – a search for the ultimate short-form entertainer who is able to make an audience laugh.

dmg Radio Australia, in partnership with The Comedy Channel and YouTube, today announced the launch of Unhatched – a search for the ultimate short form entertainer, a performer who can secure a quick laugh.

Presented by Cool Ridge Spring Water, Unhatched offers entertainers a unique opportunity for exposure to a diverse audience across three mediums – online, radio and television.

A competition not just limited to comedians, the search is on for any entertainer who can make us laugh – a standup performance, a song or a visual performance – anyone who can express themselves on video in less than three minutes.

An idea initiated by Nova, Unhatched was brought to fruition in collaboration with The Comedy Channel and YouTube. Unhatched reflects the partners’ commitment to developing talent and fostering comedy.

Mohit Bhargava, dmg Radio Australia’s Digital Product Manager said, “Unhatched is unique in its scale, it mobilises user generated content across credible radio, television and web platforms. Unhatched celebrates short form content, recognising the changing nature of digital content creation and consumption, and connects with a new generation of entertainers.

Sarah Minogue, The Comedy Channel’s Marketing Manager said “Ever since we toured our portable comedy studio around the country we’ve known that people are desperate to not only showcase their comedic talents – but to also judge the comedy of others. Unhatched will now provide the vehicle for this, and by showcasing it across multiple platforms we are able to solicit entries, and also engage the public by inviting them to vote on who is Australia’s Funniest Nobody.”

Listeners need to submit a video of up to three minutes of their entertaining performance at www.unhatched.com.au.

The best 10 entrants will feature on Nova’s national weekend breakfast show and appear in vignettes on The Comedy Channel during the voting period. The contestant judged best overall, as determined by public vote, will pocket $10,000 cash to further their career or passion.

Unhatched launches on Monday 11 April at 9am (EST) and applications close on Friday 6 May at 5pm (EST). The Top 10 finalists, selected by an industry judging panel, will be announced on Friday 13 May during Nova’s national Drive show Fitzy & Wippa.

Listeners can vote for their favourite Unhatched finalist from Monday 16 May online at www.unhatched.com.au and have the chance to win $2,000 for their efforts.
