DoorDash delivers NRL State of Origin game ball to Townsville

Delivery service DoorDash is delivering the State of Origin’s game ball to Townsville.

The announcement:

DoorDash, the official on-demand delivery partner of the NRL, has the rights to deliver the game ball for the State of Origin series in 2021. Despite the last-minute venue change from the MCG to Townsville, DoorDash pulled out all the stops to ensure the precious game ball makes it from the MCG to the Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville on time for Wednesday’s kick-off.

At present, the ball is making its way up the east coast of Australia inside a DoorDash branded bi-plane flown by Paul Strike of Paul Strike Flying Signs towing a banner announcing; “DOORDASH DELIVERS THE BALL.” The plane has caught the eye of beachgoers, many of whom posted videos and photos on social media over the weekend.

As the ball makes its journey via flight, a fleet of Dashers on red scooters will traverse Townsville and award $50 gift cards to fans decked head to toe out in their team colours. The gift cards can be redeemed on Doordash.com.au and through the DoorDash app.

Better yet, The Dasher fleet will be on the lookout for the most diehard Queensland fans who weren’t lucky enough to nab tickets and surprise them with a pair of tickets just hours before the game.

On game day, the “Dasher” delivery person who has made the mercy dash with the ball, will jump on a DoorDash scooter and drive straight into the stadium and onto the field, where they will remove their helmet and be revealed as a (secret for now) NRL legend and present the ball to the 27,000 screaming fans in attendance.

Before the ball’s arrival, viewers in the stadium will watch its journey on the big screens before cutting to a live feed of the “Dasher” arriving on their scooter and revealing themself to deliver the ball on behalf of DoorDash.
