Don’t use local press, says Fairfax paper; Lions organiser gives a PR masterclass

A new campaign from the Sydney Morning Herald scores a spectacular own goal for Fairfax. smh-domain-adA full page ad extols the virtues of the SMH’s Domain property pages as the best place to advertise. The copy asks: “Are you limiting exposure of your advertising to just locals? Local community newspapers restrict your advertising exposure…”

Which must be delightful reading for Rural Press’s 160 regional newspapers and magazines which are part of the, erm, Fairfax Media group.

The Cannes Lions will be, Dr Mumbo is glad to note, running a PR category for the first time this year. Perhaps they might like to consider this entry from their own experts, announcing a change of venue for their sister event in Dubai: “Although the Palladium, a highly versatile and technically advanced venue would be ready in time, it is in the best interests of all concerned to relocate the event to ensure the overall success of the festival.” Some excellent spin there…
