DR MUMBO: Lie To Me (about the ratings)
The favourite part of Dr Mumbo’s day is when the television networks’ creative interpretations of last night’s viewing drops into his inbox. And he was particularly tickled by Ten’s PR effort this morning. Celebrating the success of the season premiere of body language crime drama Lie To Me, the release announces: “This audience is Ten’s best result in the 9.30pm slot for more than two years.”
It adds as a footnote at the end of the release “*excluding the 2007 Big Brother Finale”. So that would be second best then.
And Dr Mumbo was similarly amused by Seven’s imaginative response of Monday night’s rare ratings win for Ten – pretend the channel didn’t exist, instead announcing: “Seven demolishes Nine”.
Evidently the press release had a telling twitch so you could tell it was lying, like the poker players when they’re bluffing, like the politicians when their out of their depth, like the agencies when… Those twitches can be ironed out, I’m told.
